Late last night we snuck 6 full grown hens from a friend into the coop in the dark of night. This morning when I went to open the coop I peaked inside and saw them all staring at each other as if they weren't sure, but something seemed different. We finished the nesting boxes on Sunday and after all of the hard work we'd put into the coop we were getting anxious for some eggs so we decided to get some that are already laying. And so, sure enough, today we got our first two eggs and it was like discovering gold for me and the boys.
Midafternoon the intense heat and humidity broke with a nice thunderstorm and the boys and I were forced inside. They rediscovered some art supplies that had sat untouched for awhile. (The two eggs in the basket on the table are our first!)
After the storm I went out to the garden and took some pictures to capture all of the growth that is happening there. We had our first tomato yesterday and it too was like gold.
This year we decided to just thow the potato eyes under the hay instead of burying them in the ground and they seem to be doing really well. I can't wait to taste them. Here are some of the new girls. They took over the good perches today in the coop.
I was trying to capture a good photo of the rooster because his feathers grow more beautiful everday. He was difficult to capture and then he'd had enough and rushed me. He made me feel like I was unwanted paparazzi.
(Does anyone know what breed this chicken is? As a chick it was yellow with black dots on it's head)
As I type this the rain is coming down and the thunder is low and steady and I can't help but wonder what new growth we'll find in the garden tomorrow.
